the term "unforced error" is a bit peculiar in tennis.
of course it was "unforced" — no one intends to "force" an error...right?
true.
but the ironic thing is that most errors in tennis are because we "forced" the shot too much.
we tightened our grip too much, shanked the ball more than we should have, or felt compelled to go for the winner.
we all know the feeling.
in life, it's not so different.
when you "force" anything — on or off of the court — you are not in your own flow state.
you are pushing something beyond your bounds of comfort.
and inevitably, this causes errors.
